- Doedicurus: The South American, heavily armoured herbivorous glyptodont, Doedicurus, that lived during the Pleistocene and Holocene periods 2 million to 8,000–7,000 years ago joins the Prehistoric Animal series. The animal was related to present day armadillos, sloths and anteaters and had an average overall length of around 3.6 m (12 ft). It had an unusually shaped shell and a bone club-tail that may have been used in trials between males or defense against predators such as Smilodon.
